Is that really worth it? That's not even taking the 250 supplies into account, nor the extra Power Generator you will have to build. Magnetic Weapons are ~20 days to research. That is 58 days before you can field a Psi Operative, of which 26 days are spent on research. You want at least 3 skills which is ~ 18 days total assuming you get something like MC or Null Lance which takes more time. Then 5 days to train one and of course you're not taking a bare bones Psi operative on a mission. However, if we take Commander difficulty, you need the Sectoid Autopsy at ~8 days, then Psionics at ~18 days, then build the Psi Lab in 14 days I think it is? Might be more without an Engineer. If you do get them early, they are bonkers. Or am I missing the niche of this character? ( besides having a pet muton to follow you around) I feel like fireaxis should've incorporated them more in the starting game to make them feel more useful. It seems to me that they are really handy, but not special enough to require them in combat. However, with things like mimic beacon, haywire protocol or a well placed serial, I struggle to see the need for these units (might have gotten a bit too cosy early on in my current strategy though). To me, it seems that the Psi unit is the unit you turn to when shit goes tits up. I haven't had a unit die on me since I unlocked the predator armor. However, I've already buffed out a solid main team with capable replacements ( depending on the mission, 1-2 snipers, 2 heavy gunners in warsuits, 2-3 specialists ( one battlemedic, one combat, and one mix)), and they seem to manage just about any situation. I've got one operative maxed out, and I've used him twice on a mission. I started building a training chamber real late in the game.

New player, at the end of my first playthrough (vanilla, normal).
